As the trade winds rustle palms on idyllic beaches, they carry hints of spice - nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla - enticing you to discover the Spice Island, Grenada. The Rex Grenadian commands spectacular views, across its lake and gardens, over the white sands and turquoise Caribbean waters of Tamarind Bay, towards St. George's, the island's capital.

“Wonderful holiday at The Rex” Grenadian by Rex ResortsWe had another wonderful holiday at the Rex. Friendly and helpful staff who could not do enough for you to make your holiday special for you. The resort is in a lovely location on a palm lined sandy beach. All of the food was first class with at least 4 choices of main course in the restaurant. This was our second time at the Rex. Once more we had a wonderful time. From the time we arrived until we left we were spoiled by the staff, both in the restaurants and the bars.
The rooms were more than adequate, with tea-making facilities, fridge, TV, iron, hairdryer etc. we had a lovely view to the sea, and the maid service was excellent. The scales in the bathroom didn't work. ...... Thank goodness!!!!
There is a small gym; we had a look at that, but left quickly!
The quality of the food was first-class, with Mr. Adil Sherwani, the Executive Chef always around to ensure that the food was hot and plentiful. He was more than happy to arrange alternative dishes if those on offer were not to a particular taste. Given that he is trying to cater for all tastes, both children and adults, he did a marvelous job, as did the support staff, and a special mention must go to Miss Lewis who looked after us so well, and also to Romain, who managed the restaurant admirably.
There are well laid-out gardens, with a lake the centrepiece of the hotel property. Various wildlife abound and a stroll around the lake is recommended.
The watersports offered the usual snorkelling, etc., but, it was apparent that the sails were never raised on the Hobies unless someone wanted to sail. For the most part, diving seemed to be the main activity as far as they were concerned, and perhaps they could be a little more proactive and invite guests to experience the thrill of a Hobie ride with the option of taking a paid lesson. Reef fishing could be considered at a small extra charge for perhaps an hour or so two or three times a week.
The pool area is very clean, but the sitting area around the bar needs more parasols to provide cover from the strong sun.
The bar staff were excellent, and a special mention for Abigail and Antonio; sorry you lost at dominoes!!
There are three bars, one at the pool area with great views, and one indoors, where the entertainment is held. There is also a bar on the beach beside the vendors' stall, where one can get one of those late morning thirst quenchers; but it was closed when we were there due to it being refurbished. we used it the last time we were at the hotel and passed an hour or two out of the sun watching the boats sail by.
As an aside, there is a bar at the far end of the beach called the Aquarium where a local band plays every Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m. The music is local and the band is terrific. they serve a wonderful lobster lunch........ really, try it. you won't be disappointed.
There is an internet facility close to reception that will satisfy the needs of anyone who needs to keep in touch with the office or home.
Mr. Flockhart, the General Manager, was always on hand to assist or address any issues that arose from the guests (not that we had any) and he must be congratulated on the quality of the service offered at the hotel as well as the very positive attitude of the staff.
We have stayed at most of the Rex hotels in the Caribbean and this hotel by far is the best managed and most comfortable.
We will definitely go back. |
