“The best wine tour in Italy!!!”
Tuscan Wine Tours
My family (7 adults--mid 40s and early 70s) recently returned from our first trip to Italy. We stayed in a villa in Siena (more on that on another review). Before we left, my family left it to me to find a wine tour, so being a faithful TripAdvisor reader, checked reviews and found several raves about Tuscan Wine Tours, hosted by Rebecca Christopherson. Checked her website (www.tuscan-wine-tours.com), but much to my dismay found she was booked for the entire week we were going to be in Italy. Disappointed, I emailed her, requesting her to contact us should she have any cancellations that might accommodate our group. She emailed back immediately, and graciously offered to arrange a tour for us on her one day off that week, but was hesitant to offer it to us, as she would have to bring her daughter. We gladly accepted her offer, and couldn't have been more thrilled with the result. She took us to San Polino, an organic winery in Montalcino that only produces Brunello wine. Katya, the owner, hosted our tour, and was quite thorough in her presentation. Her vineyards, olive orchard, and house were exactly what you expect the Tuscan countryside to look like, only better because we were there!!! The wine was superb, of course, and the tasting we experienced was fantastic, as it was accompanied by local bread and cheese, which only enhanced the flavors. After the tasting, Rebecca had arranged a lunch at a local restaurant. Since it was Sunday, the owner opened it specifically for our group, and the result was a very intimate, spectacular lunch outside under a grape arbor. After the lunch, our group went to the nearby monastery to take in the Gregorian chanting done by the monks living there. Fabulous!!! And the last stop was a trip to Montalcino to take in the sights in the historic little town. Even though it was Sunday, many shops and little cafes were open, completing the experience with an Italian espresso. The day was completely perfect in every way, we couldn't have asked for better weather, a more beautiful vineyard, or a better guide to have arranged it all for us. Rebecca was knowledgeable and wonderful, and her daughter Louise was a pleasure to have with us. Please believe me when I say this was the highlight of our trip to Italy. Seeing the David in Florence was spectacular, but the overall experience of this day with Rebecca is my favorite memory of our trip to Italy. If I could give the experience 10 stars, I would!
